By plane
Brussels International Airport (BRU) is the main hub for air travel in and out of Belgium, serving over 200 destinations worldwide. The airport is located about 25 km west of Leuven. A direct rail connection links Leuven (also known as Louvain) and the airport in only 15 minutes. Private taxi and Uber options are also available from the airport to Leuven.
Brussels South Charleroi Airport (CRL) is located about 46 km south of Brussels city center and primarily serves budget airlines to several European destinations. A shuttle bus connects Brussels city and the airport.
By train
Brussels Midi (also known as Brussels-South or Brussel-Zuid) is one of the major railway stations in Brussels, connecting the city with various domestic and international destinations. High-speed trains such as Thalys, Eurostar, and ICE operate from this station, offering fast connections to Paris, Amsterdam, London, Cologne, Frankfurt, and others. Domestic trains directly connect Leuven and Brussels Midi in about 30 minutes. Trains also run frequently from Brussels Central and Brussels Nord stations.
Note: When purchasing train tickets, make sure to select Leuven (also known as Louvain) as your destination — not Louvain-la-Neuve, which is a different city located about 30 km away.
By foot, bicycle, or public transport
From Leuven train station, Keizersberg Abbey is about 2km on foot, or 10 minutes by bicycle. A spacious bicycle parking area is available on site.
Two nearby bus stops — Leuven Keizersberg and Leuven Lüdenscheid — are served by several local and regional lines, including bus lines 4, 10, 70, R80, and R90, providing convenient connections to and from Leuven station and surrounding areas. Limited parking is available at Keizersberg itself. Visitors arriving by car are advised to use Parking Vaartkom, located nearby, and enjoy a short walk through the park to the abbey.
